HYDERABAD: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Hyderabad seized foreign origin smuggled non-duty-paid 280 sacks of black tea worth Rs06.6million involving duty and taxes of Rs930241 during a raid on the area of Hyderabad region in the month of June 2017.
Following the guidelines of Karachi Customs Intelligence Director Tahir Qureshi, the Field Investigation Unit Hyderabad is taking stern action against the smugglers in the region. Sources told Customs Today that the FIU Hyderabad received a tip-off regarding the smuggling of imported black tea. So the unit formed a raiding party to foil the smuggling bid. The team intercepted a vehicle near Hatri Police Station, Bypass Hyderabad. The vehicle was going to Karachi from Lahore.
The customs officials asked the driver to produce the legal documents of the imported goods, but he failed to do so. So the customs officials impounded the vehicle and recovered the said goods following the customs bylaws.
The Hyderabad FIU, under the supervision of Deputy Director Waqar Haroon Malik, comprised Intelligence Officer Superintendent Qasim Ali Alvi, Intelligence Officer Irfan Ghani, Sepoys Noshad Khan, Azam Ali Chandio, Rao Abdul Sattar, Muhammad Imran and Driver Haneef Somroo and others, who took part in the operation.
Meanwhile, Customs Intelligence and Investigation also seized 116 bundles of ladies cloths worth Rs07million involving duty and taxes of Rs01.6million during an action near Hatri Bypass in Hyderabad in the month of June 2017. The smuggled cloth was being from transported from Karachi to Lahore.
Officials said the Field Investigation Unit (FIU) of Customs Intelligence on the strict instructions of director has started taking action against the smuggling in the region. They further said the crackdown has been launched on the smugglers in the region by adopting latest strategies in this regard.
Customs Intelligence Director Tahir Qureshi received a tip-off regarding the smuggling of ladies cloth through this region. He formed a team, comprising Deputy Director Waqar Haroon including Superintendent Qasim Ali Alvi, Intelligence Officer Irfan Ghani, Noor Muhammad Shah, Sepoys Muhammad Imran, Noshad Khan, Ghayas Ahmad Shah, Aslam Chohan, Azam Ali Chandio, Drivers Hanif Soomro, Janib Crub and others, to bust the smuggling gang.
The intelligence staff intercepted a vehicle for checking that led to the recovery of said 116 bundles of ladies cloth. The driver of the vehicle was asked to show the legal documents of the goods but he failed to so. The officials confiscated the items considering them smuggled under the customs bylaws. The cloth has been shifted to state warehouse after making a seizure report.
