Adjudication-I Collector Farid hears PTCL tax evasion case

KARACHI: Collector of Customs Adjudication-I Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi on Thursday heard the tax evasion case of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL).

Departmental Representative Pervaiz Iqbal Kassi appeared before Collector of Customs Adjudication-I Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi on the behalf of PTCL, while Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Senior Intelligence Officer Saudul Hassan presented as a departmental representative on behalf of his department.

During the hearing, it was observed that Kassi had submitted an incomplete copy of the contract in his written reply. The Collector of Customs Adjudication-I asked Kassi to produce a complete copy of the contract in the next hearing so that things would be decided in the light of the contract awarded to the PTCL in importing the equipment.

Next hearing will be held on 24 November.

The Model Customs Collectorate Appraisement-West unearthed a massive misdeclaration of billions of rupees by the PTCL on clearance of telecommunication equipments which causing huge financial loss to the national exchequer.

Meanwhile, none of the departmental representatives presented before the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication in Q-Mobile tax evasion case and seizure of six trucks carrying smuggled fabric.
