ZARANJ: Afghan customs department of southwestern Nimroz province has seized 150 truckloads of low-quality fuel imported from neighbouring Iran here the other day.
The Council of Ministers banned inferior fuel imports this year, Customs Director Wais Sultani said, asking the importers to return the low-quality oil.
But the traders said they had placed orders for the import of “diesel 50” before the start of 2014; their tankers could not reach the border in time due to certain problems.
Mohammad Ewaz, one of the crude oil businessmen, told their tanker — filled with fuel in Tehran on December 24 — were supposed to reach Nimroz within three days.
But Iranian drivers took the tankers to the border when the due date for imports had expired. He said over 100 tankers still waited across the border and 50 others seeking permits from the customs office.
Mohammad Nazir, another businessman, said the tankers carried diesel worth millions of afghanis. “We will suffer a huge loss if the oil tankers are not allowed to enter Afghanistan,” he added.
Recently, a report revealed that drug addiction has increased in Afghanistan and the reason is that addicts have easy access to drugs. Same is in Parwan, as a number of its officials and residents said that drug addicts can easily buy drugs from some certain areas in the province.
