SYDNEY: Alfa Romeo’s new 4C Coupe has touched down in Australia this week, following its world premiere as a mere concept back in 2011.

In Australia, the 4C is intended to signal the beginning of a renaissance for the Alfa brand.

More new models will follow, including the hotly anticipated ‘Giulia’ sedan, and the company is also working in Australia to sharpen its operations, expand its dealer network and deliver a better customer experience.

The performance-focused 4C Coupe, then, is Alfa’s new standard bearer for its assault on the premium market, where incoming models like the new Giulia will do battle with the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class.

The 4C range kicks off from $89,000 plus on-roads, but quick-footed and well-heeled customers can part with $109,000 (plus on-roads) for the special Launch Edition.

That model is limited to just 75 units in Australia, out of a global run of 1300.

Power in the 4C is provided by a flipped and enhanced version of the Giulietta QV’s 1.75 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine (which, in turn, has now been transferred back into the Giulietta), producing 177kW and 350Nm of torque.

A six-speed twin-clutch auto is the only shifter available for the mid-engined rear-wheel-drive 4C Coupe, and Alfa promises a 0-100km/h sprint time of just 4.5 seconds. Top speed is 257km/h.
