The new program would allow Alibaba to better leverage its own technology and expertise as well as partners’ existing network and at the same time improve networking efficiency and optimize cloud solutions, according to a joint statement today.

The first phase of the project includes seven partners including Singaporean telecommunication company Singtel, Dubai’s holding company Meraas, US data center and Internet exchange provider Equinix, covering the North America, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

Currently Aliyun has data centers in Beijing, Hangzhou, Qingdao, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Silicon Valley, and another site in Dubai is under construction.

Globally, expenditure for both public and private cloud computing is expected to grow 28 percent this year to US$32 billion, according to technology consultancy IDC’s report.
