TOKYO: LG G3 can now be installed with Google’s latest version of its Android Lollipop firmware via a custom ROM.

GSM Arena’s specs list for the LG flagship device noted that the smartphone can now be updated with the official Android 5.0 Lollipop update. LG G3 became available on June 2014 with Android 4.4.2 KitKat update as its original firmware.

However, those who are eager to install an OS update can choose to install Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update using the CyanogenMod 12 nightly build custom ROM.

According to International Business Times, the CM12 custom ROM offers the “latest Lollipop functions and features for a fast and smooth stock Android experience.” Those who wish to install Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update can learn more details about the custom CM12 Nightly ROM on this official CyanogenMod page.

It should be noted though that the CM12 Nightly ROM is only suitable for the LG G3 units bearing the model number D855. And since it is an unofficial firmware, users should be extra careful when upgrading their LG G3’s firmware.

The download links for the necessary installation files and the comprehensive guide on how to install Android 5.0.2 Lollipop via the CM12 ROM are available on this IB Times report. Follow the instructions properly to prevent mistakes that can possibly cause damage the device.

Meanwhile, provided below are some of the conditions and requirements to satisfy prior to installing Android 5.0.2 Lollipop OS via CM12:

The battery level of the LG G3 D855 should be 80 percent or even higher. This will prevent the phone from automatically turning off from running out of battery.

Enable the USB Debugging Mode of the LG G3 D855 by going to Settings >> Developer Options.

A backup of all the important data and settings stored on the device is necessary as flashing a custom ROM can wipeout the entire memory of the smartphone. ClockWorkMod is just one of the highly-recommended custom recovery tools.
