Android 5.0.2 Lollipop Update: Nexus 6, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 2013, Nexus 4, Nexus 9, Nexus 10 on hold because of bugs

LONDON: Nexus 7 2012 Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update was released back in December last year and while Google is yet to confirm anything just yet, speculations regarding the 5.0.2 update for Nexus 6, Nexus 5, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 2013, Nexus 9 and Nexus 10 have already started making round of the internet.

Android 5.0.1:5.0.2 Lollipop update for Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 4 and Nexus 10The changes that we saw in Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update were mainly focused on the 2012 Nexus 7 tablet. I say mainly, but it was probably more like half and half. In half of the changes, we saw the Nexus 7 2012 specifically named. This is for things like a more aggressive TRIM schedule, tweaks to the kernel, and a few other things. The other half of the changes in Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update had to do with the alarm system for Android itself. Not the alarm clock that wakes you up, but the internal alarm system that allows applications to wake up and perform tasks.

So given the unimportant nature of changes that are there, it sort of makes sense that the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update still hasn’t made its way to Nexus 6, Nexus 5, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 2013, Nexus 9 and Nexus 10 devices.

After the 5.0.2 Lollipop factory images were posted, we started seeing reports of users receiving this OTA update on their Nexus 7 2012 tablets. We’ve heard some great reviews about the update so far, and it seems to have solved most, if not all, of the issues that Nexus 7 users were having with Lollipop.

When Google releases a new update, we generally see a steady release of the update for one device after another. They even sometimes release them in batches, covering multiple devices at the same time. This has not been the case so far with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, and this has multiple Android blogs debating exactly why this is happening.

Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus 5 and Nexus 7Some feel that Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update for the rest of the Nexus 6, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 2013, Nexus 4, Nexus 9 and Nexus 10 range is on hold right now because of some bugs. Some feel that the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop updates have been on pause because of an upcoming 5.0.3/5.1 update that is said to fix a nasty memory leak.

We’ve even seen some Android publications saying the Nexus 6 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop rollouts have been stopped in order to make way for the 5.0.2 updates. Still, as I said above, there is no evidence that actually points to any of this. This is all nothing more than speculation and we are waiting for Google to make the next move. Then we will know for sure.

We do know that Google has that Android 5.0 Lollipop update for HSPA+ Nexus 7 2012 and LTE Nexus 7 2013 still hasn’t been delivered, and this could give us a hint as to what they are planning.

If they were planning to just release Android 5.0 Lollipop, then those tablets should have been updated already. So it seems like Google is delaying their already delayed updates for another reason. It’s possible that they want to wait until the Android 5.0.3 update is ready. All we can do is speculate at this point but we want to hear what you think is going on.

Use the comments section below to tell us why you think the cellular variants of the Nexus 7 haven’t been updated yet. Also, tell us what you think Google is planning with the 5.0.2 Lollipop update and the possible 5.0.3 Lollipop update.
