ANF launches crackdown against poppy cultivation

LAHORE: Anti Narcotics Force has launched clean-up operation against poppy cultivation targeting six localities while destroying 522 acres of poppy crops in Balochistan, Khyber Pukhtunkhwa and Sindh.

ANF in coordination with provincial government destroyed poppy crop spread over 39.5 acres at District Loralai, 317.8 acres at Tehsil Duki and 76 Acres at Tehsil Mekhtar in the province of Balochistan.

Poppy eradication in the province of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa has been carried out over 63 acres of Torghar, District Hazara.

Likewise poppy crop destruction in the province of Sindh was carried out over 26 acres in Tehsil Qambar and Tehsil Warah. Further operations are underway and more eradication of standing poppy crop is expected.

Besides eradication of standing crop of poppy, ANF conducted five operations in the provinces of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan and recovered 1,980 kg poppy straw, 70.7 kg chraras, 1.5 kg heroin, 3.74 kg opium, arrested five persons and seized one vehicle.

ANF Balochistan intercepted a truck in general area Kharr Daulatzai, Tehsil Mekhtar, District Loralai and recovered 1980 kg poppy straw from the truck. Two accused both residents of Killi Saghri, Tehsil Bori, District Loralai, have been arrested.

ANF Lahore on information intercepted an unattended bag lying at village Mian Raheema, near Khanqah Dogran, Tehsil Pindi Bhatian, Hafizabad District and recovered 69.6 kg charas and 3.6 kg opium. Subsequently, case was registered against anonymous accused.

ANF Rawalpindi intercepted a consignment, a carton of kitchen items, and recovered 1.5 kg brown heroin tactfully concealed in pots and trays. It was booked from USL Express International Courier Cargo Services in Rawalpindi, by a resident of Tehsil Sambrial, Sialkot District. The carton was booked for UK. On back tracking, the consignee who used fake name was arrested from Lahore. The accused was resident of Lyari, Karachi.

ANF Karachi arrested two persons, both residents of Sukkur and recovered 140 grams opium and 1.1 kg charas from their personal possession. They were arrested in Sukkur city.

Cases against all the accused persons have been registered in ANF Police Stations and further investigation are underway.
