US:  Apple Inc.’s PC shipments see a slide amid global PC shipment decline, Garter Inc. is reported to have recently published a report on worldwide PC shipments throughout the second quarter of the running year. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has also come into the wrath of declining PC shipments.

The report notes Apple delivered 1.92 million PCs, representing a downbeat from 1.97 million in 2014 for the same quarter, in turn registering a Year-over-Year (YoY) slide of 2.5%. Garter principal analyst, Mikako Kitagawa, notes that the trend is largely due to strong US dollar, resulting in a price hike in countries other than the US.

Mr. Kitagawa is reported as explaining: “The price hike of PCs became more apparent in some regions, due to a sharp appreciation of the U.S. dollar, against local currencies – The price hike could hinder PC demand in these regions.”

However, it is important to note that the fall in PC shipments is seen to be phenomenal making majority of PC makers suffer. The most notable manufacturer to have lost on the volume of shipments is Hewlett-Packard Company. HP is reported to suffer a decline of more than 10%, as the company shipped 3.95 million units in 2QFY15, down from 4.39 a year earlier.

In the report, Lenovo Group limited (ADR) is seen to be the only company, which is flowing against the trend; shipments are seen to have increased well over the 9% mark, with second quarter shipments amounting to 2 million, up from 1.82 million on YoY bases.

Furthermore, the report claims that although Apple faced a downward trend in PC shipments but the iPhone maker experienced growth in overall market share, as compared to a year earlier. Being voted the fourth largest PC retailer, Apple gained 12.70% in market share, in comparison to 12.30% in 2014.

On Thursday, Apple stock closed after a steep fall by 2.04%, landing the share price to $120.07, some market commentators note the movement to be alarming, as investors are likely to lose significant capital. Last night’s closing price is dubbed to the lowest by the tech giant in the past five years.
