BUENOS AIRES: Foreign trade has increased in volume by 800,000 kilograms and in revenues by $400,000 dollars, according to the Ministry of Agro-industry of Mendoza.

The Ministry of Agro-industry of Mendoza stated that total fresh fruit exports in 2015 have increased by 13% in volume, as they amounted to 7.1 million kilograms in 2015 and 6.3 million kilograms in 2014, and 7% in revenue when compared to the previous year ($6.5 million dollars in 2014 and $6.9 million dollars in 2015).

According to the report provided, “so far the indicators for exports if fresh fruits, such as plums, peaches, and nectarines have been very good in 2015. Shipments have double or even tripled in some cases. Last year’s exports were characterized by strong climatic accidents and loss of production.”

The data handled by the Ministry of Agro-industry and Technology via ProMendoza corroborates this statement. According to data, plum sales in the first quarter of 2015 have increased by a little more than 200% in volume, from 355,000 kg in 2014 to 1.1 million kilos in 2015, and its price has gone up by 115% when compared to the same period last year.

The volume exported of fresh peach was nearly 260% higher than in 2014 and revenues were 117% higher, “last year we sold 332.000 kg abroad worth $460.000 dollars, so far this year we’ve sold 1.2 million kilograms worth more than one million dollars.”

The largest buyer of fresh fruit is still Brazil, but sales of plums, apples and peaches to Bolivia increased significantly. Paraguay, the United States and Uruguay continue to be important markets for the fruit from Mendoza.

Finally, the report highlighted that, even though there were no exports of cherry in 2013 and in 2014 because of a lack of volume and export quality, this year’s season had allowed them to export $377,000 dollars worth of this fruit to the Chinese market, via Hong Kong, during the first three months of 2015.
