FIR in arms smuggling: accused moves SHC for bail

KARACHI: The Customs & Taxation Court Special Judge Soofia Latif, who had rejected the bail application of the accused trying to smuggle arms in personal baggage at Jinnah International Airport Karachi, was informed by the lawyer of accused that his client appealed Sindh High Court for bail.

The hearing of the bail request of accused Mumtaz-ud-Din will be held on Friday (today) at Sindh High Court.

On the other hand, the co-accused, Hafeezullah, was already on interim bail till next hearing at the Customs Court.

Earlier, the Court had issued non-bailable warrants of Javed Sami s/o Muhammad Sami involved in the same case.

Sources told Customs Today that the accused Mumtaz-ud-Din was caught at Jinnah International Airport Karachi (JIAP) on August 21, 2014 with arms and ammunition in his personal baggage.

According to FIR No 13/2014 dated August 21, 2014 accused Mumtaz-ud-Din was intercepted at the Jinnah International Airport Karachi on August 21 after he arrived at JIAP on board Turkish Airline flight No TK-708 and customs recovered 25 parts of pistol and 97 magazines from the accused who was boarded a Turkish Airline. “On investigations, the arrested smuggler has confessed to his crime, saying he had previously smuggled four such consignments to Pakistan,” sources said.
