ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized a truck loaded with Indian zeera and herbs worth Rs 3.9 million.
Deputy Collector Shahid Jan told Customs Today that he received information that some smugglers would try to smuggle a huge quantity of Indian origin goods.
The deputy collector said that the ASO formed a squad led by Deputy Superintendent Arif Dar and made a picket near Dina. The squad intercepted a Mazda truck bearing registration no. C-2361 and asked the driver to provide the documents to ascertain legal import of the goods. However, the owner of the goods failed to provide any proof.
Shahid Jan said that after initial investigation the squad seized 4,590 kilogram Indian zeera and 3,500 kilogram of Indian herbs from the truck. The total value of the seized goods is Rs 2.4 million, adding that the ASO also seized the truck that facilitated the smugglers. The value of the offending truck is Rs 1.5 million.
The deputy collector said that ASO seized the goods and truck under smuggling act and after filing FIR against smugglers the case has been forward to I&P Department for further details.
Superintended Dar told Customs Today that the Customs Department has adopted zero tolerance policy towards smugglers. He said that the government has also directed them to foil any attempt of smuggling. Superintendent said that customs ASO is using all available resources to curb smuggling attempts in the region.
