SYDNEY: Asus continued its tradition and launched a new 2-in-1 device Transformer Book Chi T300 in Australia. There are two models that Asus has unveiled in the market. First model is featured with 4GB RAM available for $1,299 while 8GB of RAM model is available in $1,599.

First, the Transformer Book Chi T300. It’s a razor thin 7.2mm 12.5-inch tablet at just 720 grams with a Core M processor is the heart of the latest Asus Transformer Book, the Chi T300, and while the specs say ‘0.75kg’, both ‘under 750g’ and then 720g were highlighted last night.

As a 2-in-1 device, it has a full-size detachable wireless bluetooth-connected keyboard with additional battery and mouse touchpad, with the keyboard dock weighing 700 grams. It measures just 1.65cm when docked.

There are two models – both being fanless devices featuring Intel Core M-5Y71 processors running at 1.2GHz with 4MB cache and turbo boost speeds up to 2.9GHz with  WQHD screen, res of 2560×1400, and naturally, both are touch screen devices with 128GB SSDs – and are on sale from today.

The WQHD model promises 7 hours of battery life, while the FHD model promises 8 hours.

It also has the ‘world’s strongest magnets’ in the dock, which made me wonder how compatible that would be with portable spinning hard drives and credit cards in wallets placed in the same carry bag as the T300.

You can see Asus’ response in the video below, but it seems for a definitive answer we need to wait to hear back from Asus, and in the meantime, the usual caveats about magnets and magnetic mediums apply, alongside the fact the T300 has SSD storage so at least nothing in the T300 itself is at risk from technological magnetism.

But it’s not the only thing Asus launched and/or previewed last night, with three more devices to detail.

Also launched was the Transformer Book T100 Chi, a 10.1-inch screened 2-in-1 with Full HD touch screen, an Atom Baytrail-T Z3775 processor, 2GB RAM, 64GB SSD and more, and this will be available in early April at an RRP of $699.

Next up is an Asus ZenWatch, a square Android Wear watch with standard 22mm watch band clips letting you use the watch band of your choice, and a ‘no button’ configuration – it’s all done via a touch screen.

The price wasn’t announced but an Asus rep suggested it would sell for $299, so we’ll have to see if that’s the case but it would be in line with other Android Wear watches out there.

Before we get onto more details of the Transformer Book Chi T300, as well as the video of last night’s launch event, Asus also showed off it ZenBook UX305, the world’s slimmest 13.3-inch QHD+ ‘ultraportable laptop at just 12.3mm thin.

Weighing just 1.2kg and with a 3200×1800 QHD+ display with IPS and anti-glare, it too is powered by an Intel Core M, features SSD up to 256GB and offers ‘up to’ 10 hours of battery life.

Available now from national retailers, it comes in a consumer configuration of FHD display, 4GB RAM and 256GB SSD for $1399.
