SYDNEY: Audi and its 2016-year A6 saloon model has been named as a “Top Safety Pick +” by the renowned American-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The A6 was awarded with the title following the model’s “stellar performance” in the IIHS institute’s renowned and gruelling series of crash-tests, including its severe ‘small overlap test’ phase. The IIHS also noted that the A6 already performed well in its moderate overlap front and roof strength tests, citing that the revisions its received for 2016 helped it perform extremely well in that specific test that followed.
Results of the small overlap crash test shows that the A6 retains it are the driver’s space well, with only a slight intrusion no more than four inches recorded in foot rest area. Also playing a big role here are the A6 cabin’s side curtain airbags that control the movements of its occupant, grating optimum head protection against the side structure and outside objects.
Furthermore, measurements recorded from the crash test dummy indicate a low risk of injuries from a crash of such magnitude, allowing the Audi A6 to earn the IIHS’ ‘Top Safety Pick +’ rating. Notably, several of Audi’s rivals have also received this rating and it includes the 2015 Volvo S60 and the Infiniti Q50.
