Avantha Group awarded contract at 400 MW Veja Mate Offshore Project GmbH

BERLIN: Avantha Group Company CG, along with other consortium partners Cofely Fabricom and lemants, has been awarded the contract for the turnkey supply and installation of HV offshore substation for the 400 MW Veja Mate Offshore Project GmbH.

The scope of work for CG includes the electrical engineering, grid compliance studies, HV/MV equipment supply, installation and commissioning. The equipment will be installed at the 400 MW offshore substation for the Veja Mate wind farm located over 100 kilometers off the German coast in the North Sea. The project will be brought online before the end of 2017.

The 400 MW Veja Mate wind farm comprises of 67 wind turbines (6MW) and will be connected to the German high voltage grid via the BorWin2 converter platform. Veja Mate will produce enough electricity for over 280,000 households and reduce CO2 emissions by over 570,000 tons per year.

This project adds to the growing list of 12 offshore substations utilising CG high voltage AC (alternating current) solutions, with a total offshore wind generation capacity of nearly 3500 MW power. The accumulated contract value on these offshore wind high voltage transmission scope projects, including Veja Mate represents, approximately 200 Mio Euro.

Offshore wind is a major component of Europe’s target to harness 20 percent of its energy from renewable sources. Currently, 12 projects are under progress and once completed, they will increase the installed capacity by around 3 GW, bringing the cumulative capacity in Europe to nearly 11 GW (Source: EWEA 2014 report).
