BERLIN: The average price of gas imported into Germany in March was Eur22.40/MWh, or Eur6,224.89 per terajoule, according to German customs agency BAFA Tuesday. The price was up 3.6% from February, but down 11.1% from March last year.

It was slightly above the average NCG day-ahead spot gas price recorded by Platts for March, of Eur21.925/MWh.

The price was almost exactly in line with the average NCG month-ahead spot gas price recorded in February, of Eur22.468/MWh.

That could suggest that German gas buyers take much of their gas on contracts linked to the month-ahead spot gas price.

Germany imported a volume of 373,170 TJ (9.8 Bcm) in March, some 16.3% above March 2014. Last year the winter was unusually mild.

From January to March 2015 Germany imported 1,020,763 TJ, some 6.9% over the same months of 2014.

The three biggest suppliers during the three month period were Russia at 325,006 TJ, Norway at 347,207 TJ and the Netherlands at 319,031 TJ.

The value of imports from Russian, Dutch, Norwegian, Danish and UK sources during the three months was Eur6.3 billion ($7.1 billion), compared with Eur7.0 billion in the previous year period.
