Azerbaijan, Iran customs to enhance mutual cooperation

IRAN: Iran’s Customs Service and Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee have signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of information and application of “one-window” system.

The issue was discussed at a meeting held between the representatives of customs administrations of two sides in Tehran.

Chief of the Main Department of Statistics and Information Technologies of the State Customs Committee Igbal Babayev and Head of the Department of Foreign Relations of the State Customs Committee Dilavar Farzaliyev are on an official visit to Iran’s capital.

During the visit the Iranian an Azerbaijani customs representatives held various meetings and discussed the issues of development of cooperation between the customs services of the two countries.

Also, the representatives from Azerbaijan got familiar with the works of a customs post in the west of capital Tehran.

Iran and Azerbaijan have had diplomatic relations since 1918. Iran recognized Azerbaijan’s independence in 1991, and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992.

Recently, the relations between Azerbaijan and Iran, two neighbouring countries with a long history of bilateral ties and cooperation, have risen to a higher level.

Tehran has in recent years focused mainly on development of ties with neighbouring countries, including Azerbaijan which enjoys various commonalties with Iran in religious, historical and cultural fields.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Iran stood at $144.045 million in January-September 2014, according to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan.

In the past nine months, goods worth $115.6 million were imported to Azerbaijan, and the goods exported by the country amounted to $28.45 million.
