DHAKA: Bangladesh Customs has seized 80 gold bars weighing some 9.2 kilograms worth of Tk4.5 crore and arrested a smuggler at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital here the other day.
Enamul Huq Chowdhury, 25, was held along with the gold worth around Tk 4.5 crore from the boarding bridge area around 6:30pm, said Kazi Jiauddin, joint commissioner of customs.
He arrived at the airport from Dubai by a Fly Dubai flight.
On information, a team of customs officials challenged him in the boarding bridge area and recovered the gold bars searching his body, the official added.
Enamul, who concealed the bars beneath his special undercoat, is a frequent traveler, he said.
