BRASILIA:  Brisbane customs officers have stopped a Brazilian man allegedly caught smuggling about two kilograms of cocaine into the country.

He’s the third Brazilian charged with importing large quantities of the drug in two weeks.

Australian Customs and Border Protection Service officers allegedly found the illegal drug when they stopped the 27-year-old at Brisbane International Airport.

The alleged seizure came almost two weeks after officers noticed an “abnormal bulge” in another Brazilian man’s groin area.

They allegedly found more than five kilograms of cocaine when searching the 26-year-old man and his 23-year-old travelling companion.

In the latest seizure the officers noticed anomalies in the lining of the 27-year-old man’s two bags after x-raying them when he arrived on a flight from Dubai.

They allegedly found white powder, which tested positive for cocaine in the first round of testing.

A customs spokeswoman said the street value of the drug couldn’t be calculated until further tests confirmed the exact weight and purity of the alleged haul.

Acting regional commander Queensland John Ikin said customs would continue to target dangerous drugs such as cocaine.

“Every seizure we make at the border means fewer drugs on our streets,” Mr Ikin said in a statement.

“It takes pressure off Brisbane’s hospitals, schools, police and communities, and it means less profit for international crime gangs seeking to profit off the misery of others and lengthy jail time for those involved in this criminal trade.”
