BRUSSELS: Brussels has launched in-depth probe into GE’s partial takeover of French industrial champion Alstom, in a signal that antitrust issues over power equipment may further complicate a $16.9bn deal already heavily influenced by politics. The European Commission, the EU’s top antitrust authority, launched a full investigation on Monday over fears the tie-up would hurt competition in the heavy duty gas turbine sector, reducing choice, innovation and leading to higher prices and maintenance costs.
