Three Brussels police officers were arrested in connection to a massive operation against a car-theft gang conducted throughout Belgium last week, federal law enforcement authorities confirmed.
Two of the agents are still being questioned, while an arrest warrant has been issued for the third, the Brussels Federal Prosecutors Office confirmed to La Capital.
One officer belongs to the local police units of the Brussels-Midi area, while the two others are federal police agents.
The police officers are suspected of corruption and of being tied to a vehicle-fraud ring, who was last week dismantled in what was described as the largest police operation in Belgium in 20 years.
Stolen vehicles, cash, weapons and caravans were seized during the operation, which led members of the targeted communities to demonstrate in front of Brussels Justice Palace.
The operation took place in areas in the Brussels region and the Flemish Brabant and Hainaut provinces, and involved over a thousand police agents from local and federal units.
Two other police officers from Charleroi had already been arrested in connection to this operation, La Dernière Heure reports.
