OTTAWA: A man was charged by Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) trying to bring a wide variety of drugs into the Grimshaw Rodeo.
The discovery was made by a police checkstop set up at the entrance to Queen Elizabeth Provincial Park, where the rodeo was held from July 31 to Aug. 2.
RCMP said the search yielded “a significant amount of illicit drugs packaged for distribution,” including marijuana, magic mushrooms, ketamine, cocaine, LSD and MDMA. A large amount of cash was also recovered.
James Diebold, 24, of St. Isidore is facing charges that include possession and intent to traffic controlled substances, as well as possession of the proceeds of crime.
Diebold is expected to appear in court in Peace River on August 24.
Queen Elizabeth Provincial Park is about 500 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
