MONTREAL: A US Customs and Border Protection officer at the Montreal CBP Preclearance facility administered lifesaving CPR to a 65-year-old Canadian traveler who collapsed during inspection.

While speaking to a CBP officer during processing, the traveler collapsed and stopped breathing. The traveler’s wife alerted the CBP officer that her husband was diabetic and needed sugar. The inspecting officer initiated and continued CPR until EMT personnel arrived, while another officer went to get candy for the man per his wife’s request. EMT personnel arrived and continued CPR on the traveler who eventually regained a pulse and started breathing on his own.
