CDWP approves 5 development projects worth Rs51.3b

ISLAMABAD: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) meeting, under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Prof Ahsan Iqbal, has recommended five projects worth Rs51.3 billion for the final approval from the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec).

The CDWP meeting discussed the projects, including the construction of reservoir for Basool Dam with storage capacity of 46.04 mcm (37,325ac-ft) with the total cost of Rs8865 million in the North West of Ormara Town, Gwadar District of Balochistan, and construction of Shadi Kaur Storage Dam, which would not only provide drinking water to 15,000 people of Pasni and surrounding areas but will also mitigate flood losses.

The CDWP recommended Disaster and Climate Resilience Improvement Project in Punjab will initiate capacity building and training programmes for the professional engineers and scale up irrigation research institute through physical models and introduction of modern instruments and simulation software. The total cost of the project is Rs 10,240 million which would be 100pc credit financing of World Bank.

The CDWP also recommended Flood Emergency Reconstruction and Resilience Project which would rehabilitate and reconstruct the flood damaged roads and bridges in Punjab. The total cost of project is Rs 17690 million which will be completed in three years.

The share of Punjab government is Rs 1769 million will 15921 will be the loan money of ADB. The Flood Emergency Reconstruction and Resilience Project in AJK envisages rehabilitation of 234km length of damaged roads due to floods of 2014 in various districts. The total cost of the projects is Rs 6641 million which will be financed by federal government and ADB.

The CDWP approved Construction/ Black Topping of Access Road from Makran Coastal Highway to New International Airport at Gwadar envisages construction of three stretches of roads each 7m wide dual carriageway totalling 2.91 km along with allied structures and facilities to provide access to New Gwadar International Airport from Makran Coastal Highway. The total cost of the project is Rs 503 million to be financed by the federal government through PSDP.
