SANTIAGO: Chile posted a cumulative $5.18 billion trade surplus between Jan. 1 and Oct. 31, compared with a positive result of $6.39 billion in the same period of 2014, the Central Bank reported on Monday.
Chile exported goods and services valued at $53.99 billion in the first 10 months of 2015, down 14.1 percent from the same period last year.
Imports, meanwhile, fell 13.6 percent to $48.81 billion.
Chile ran a trade deficit of $171 million last month, as exports tumbled 17.0 percent from October 2014 to $5.04 billion and imports declined 9.9 percent to $5.51 billion.
Foreign sales of copper, Chile’s main export, totaled $2.49 billion in October, a 18.79 percent fall from the same month last year.
