Chilean beef exports increase 121% in 2015

SANTIAGO: Chile has exported roughly $5.55 billion in forestry products this year, down 9 percent from 2014, the industry association Corma said on Tuesday.
This year’s decline largely reflects a 7 percent fall in exports of long-fiber pine as a result of the economic slowdown in China, Corma said.
At the same time, China increased wood purchases from another major supplier, Russia, as the steep drop of the ruble against the dollar made Russian exports more competitive, the organization said.
The value of bleached eucalyptus cellulose exports remained at the same level as 2014, with a price hike of 3 percent compensating for the 2 percent decrease in volume.
Sawn timber, which accounts for 10 percent of Chile’s forestry exports, is down 20 percent from 2014, also as a result of smaller demand in China.
