BEIJING: Customs has cracked 14,235 smuggling cases for the 9 months of 2014, among which 1,838 were filed for investigation. Customs administrations throughout the country imposed mandatory measures on 3,587 suspects related to these smuggling cases. In October merely, Customs officers sized 180 smuggling cases and imposed mandatory measures on 292 suspects.
China Customs has reaped substantial gains through the national campaign codenamed “Green Wind” to fight against the smuggling of agricultural products. 487 agricultural product smuggling cases were filed for investigation which involved an evaded revenue of RMB7.1 billion for the first 9 months of the year, an increase of 70.9% and 40.3% respectively.2,937,000 tons of smuggled grain products(for example rice and corn), 112,000 tons of smuggled frozen meat,106,000 tons of smuggled cotton were seized in these cases. In September, Nanning, Kunming, Hangzhou, Beijing, Ji’nan, Fuzhou, Jiangmen, Changsha, Haikou, Nanjing and Huangpu Customs Districts made big seizures of smuggled rice, corn, cotton and frozen meat. Mr. Zhang Guangzhi, the spokesman of the General Administration of Customs said Customs administrations throughout the country, following the guidelines drawn up at the Fourth Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, would intensify efforts on cracking down the smuggling of agricultural products, drugs and smuggling activities in key areas.
Through all these efforts, China Customs tries to stop with force all the smuggling activities that will be a threat to the national economic, political, cultural, social and biological safety and security.
While fighting strongly against the smuggling of agricultural products, China Customs continues to maintain a tough stance on smuggling of key dutiable items, drugs, weapons and ammunitions and overseas wastes. In the first 9 months of 2014，China Customs filed for investigation 1,019 criminal smuggling cases of dutiable items which involved an evaded revenue of RMB 11.16 billion, a year-on-year increase of 30% and 52.9% respectively. Among them, 146 were those big cases with the evade revenue exceeding RMB 10 million, jumped by 140%. Customs officers also cracked 819 criminal smuggling cases of those non-dutiable items, up 10.4%, among them, 373 were drug trafficking cases in which 4087.1 kilograms of drugs were seized, 94 were smuggling cases of weapons and ammunitions in which 252 guns and 40,125 bullets were seized, and 91 were smuggling cases of solid wastes in which 410,000 tons of such wastes as E-wastes, discarded slag, discarded cinder, used plastic and worn textile were seized.
