KARACHI: Ma Yaou, the ‘Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, has said that negotiations between Pakistan and China about the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping are underway and he will soon be visiting Pakistan.
Talking to the officials of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), who had called on him at the Consulate General in Karachi, the consul general added that various development projects in Pakistan’s energy sector, economic corridor and infrastructure development involving billions of dollars of Chinese investment remain intact and will be undertaken as planned earlier.
KCCI President Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra, Senior Vice President Muhammad Ibrahim Kasumbi and Vice President Agha Shahab Ahmed Khan represented the Karachi Chamber at the meeting whereas Vice Consul General of China, Mu Yongpeng was also present on the occasion.
The Chinese consul general said that his country had always given priority to Pakistan in its foreign policy and attached great importance to the all-weather and strategic partnership between the two countries.
Speaking on the occasion, Vohra warmly welcomed Chinese consul general’s assurance about President Xi Jinping’s visit to Pakistan which would surely pave the way for furthering relations between the two countries.
Appreciating Chinese Consulate’s full support and cooperation being extended to the Karachi Chamber, the KCCI president said that the Karachi Chamber has remained vibrant in strengthening trade ties and exploring new bilateral trade prospects with China. “We have been focusing on strengthening trade ties with China as we strongly believe that enhanced trade ties between Pakistan and China will be beneficial for the entire region,” he added.
He was of the view by further strengthening trade and investment ties, Pakistan and China would prosper on a sustainable basis. He sought Chinese assistance in addressing the economic challenges, energy crises, more investment, technology transfer, and infrastructural development.
He also stressed the need for exchanging trade delegations, individual visits of businessmen and officials, holding of single country exhibitions to each other’s country, combined with joint ventures and better travelling facilities, which would surely lead to rapid expansion in bilateral trade as well.
