CANBERRA: The Congress has said that the Andhra Pradesh government suffered a loss of Rs. 1,000 crore in import of coal from various countries in violation of norms and other reasons.
The party demanded Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to convene an all-party meeting to prove he was not guilty.
It will produce documentary evidence to show the irregularities of the government if the meeting was held, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Raghuveera Reddy and former Minister S. Sailajanath told a press conference here on Sunday.
Mr. Reddy said 12 lakh tonnes of coal was indented at 72 US $ a tonne from Australia, Indonesia and South Africa when Congress led the government in May 2013. However, another 32.25 lakh tonnes of coal was imported in the last one year of the Telugu Desam rule at the same rate though the price dipped to 50 US $ a tonne.
