ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Environment Wing has launched a vigorous crackdown on illegal cutting, transportation and its sale and imposed more than Rs200,000 fine on those involved in logging during the last two months.
According to CDA Member Environment Mustafain Kazmi, special teams have been deployed to check illegal cutting, transportation and sale of trees in the capital city.
He said number of security and forest guards had been increased manifold who act against people cutting down trees as per the law. Moreover, might patrol has been increased to thwart illegal tree cutting.
Kazmi said that the CDA chairman had directed the Environment Wing to take action as per law including confiscation and imposition of fine against illegal cutting and transport of trees.
It is to be noted that due to gas shortage in winter and high prices of firewood, residents cut trees and branches of trees, damaging the plants and trees on the green belts, Margalla Hills and public parks of the capital.
Meanwhile, CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal presided over a meeting held to review progress of installation of traffic and street sign boards in Sector D-12, construction of pre-cast boundary wall between sector D-12 and D-13 and other development works in sector D-12. Estate Member Amer Ali Ahmed, Engineering Member Shahid Sohail and senior officers of the engineering wing attended the meeting.
On the occasion, he briefed that Rs5 million would be spent on installation of traffic and street signboards. The chairman directed that the project should be completed within next three months.
