Croatia among EU states with highest growth of exports

ROME: In the first six months of 2015 Croatia maintained in a group of countries with the highest, two-digit export growth rates, according to data released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, on Monday.

In H1 2015, Croatia’s total exports rose by 12% on the year. In the first five months it went up 10%, according to Eurostat.

Therefore, Croatia maintained in the group of EU countries with the highest, two-digit export growth rates. The list is led by Cyprus whose exports rose by 28%. Cyprus is followed by Ireland and Malta with 19% and 16% growth rates respectively.

Croatia’s exports of goods into other EU member countries in H1 2015 went up 16% on the year, while the growth rate in the first five months was 13%. The only other country that recorded a higher growth rate was Ireland with 21%, while Cyprus slid to the third place with with a 14% increase of exports in other EU members.

Croatia’s exports to third countries in the first six months went up 5%, at the same pace as in the first five months.

The biggest increase of exports of goods into countries outside the EU was recorded by Cyprus (48%), followed by Malta (33%), according to Eurostat.

Croatia’s total imports of goods in H1 was up 5% on the year.

Malta once again recorded the biggest increase of imports of goods (37%). A two-digit increase was also recorded by Ireland and Great Britain — 12%.

Croatia’s imports of goods from other EU members in the said period was up 9%, while in the first five months it was up 8%. The biggest increase in the imports of goods from other EU members was recorded by Malta (33%)

Croatia’s imports in the first half of 2015 from third countries was down 8% on the year, while in the first five months it was down 5%.

The first estimate for extra-EU28 exports of goods in June 2015 was EUR 159.7 billion, up by 13% compared with June 2014 (EUR 141.4 bn). Imports from the rest of the world stood at EUR 149.3 bn, up by 7% compared with June 2014 (EUR 139.4 bn). As a result, the EU28 recorded a €10.4 bn surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in June 2015, compared with +€2.0 in June 2014. Intra-EU28 trade rose to €271.3 bn in June 2015, +10% compared with June 2014.

The first estimate for euro area (EA19) exports of goods to the rest of the world in June 2015 was EUR 182.7 billion, an increase of 12% compared with June 2014 (EUR 162.7 bn). Imports from the rest of the world stood at EUR 156.4 bn, a rise of 7% compared with June 2014 (EUR 146.7 bn). As a result, the euro area recorded a EUR 26.4 bn surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in June 2015, compared with EUR 16.0 in June 2014. Intra-euro area trade rose to EUR 151.2 bn in June 2015, up by 10% compared with June 2014.
