WASHINGTON: U.S. Customs and Border Protection suspended operations at the temporary immigrant detention center in Donna on Saturday. Officials placed the detention center on what Customs and Border Protection calls “warm standby” status, which allows operations to resume within 24 hours, according to a statement released by the agency. The detention center holds about 500 people. “This is due to a continual decline in the total number of apprehended and inadmissible alien migrants in custody at the facility, along with manageable processing of migrants at previously impacted CBP Ports of Entry and Stations,” according to the statement.
