Customs ASO confiscates huge quantity of illegally imported zinc

LAHORE: Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Lahore Monday impounded over Rs4.2 million non-customs paid zinc, shampoo, DVDs and miscellaneous items in two different raids, official sources told Customs Today here.

The sources said that on information the Anti-Smuggling Organization on the instructions of Assistant Collector Asim Awan constituted a team and intercepted a truck loaded with illegally imported zinc (sika) near Muridkay. The net weight of seized zinc is 10 ton.

The sources said that the zinc was being transported to Narowal from Gujranwala when the ASO team reached timely and recovered 10 tons of the non-customs paid zinc.

The sources said that after being fully satisfied the ASO team under the supervision of Superintendent Mumtaz Ajmal Mian along with Deputy Superintendent Aslam Iqbal and Inspector Khalid Butt and other seized the illegal consignment.  The sources said that the zinc was valued at Rs3.6 million.

The sources said that the zinc is used mostly in making parts of auto mobiles and items other such items. The sources informed that the customs authorities registering a case have started investigations.

Meanwhile, the ASO also seized over Rs 0.7 million non-duty paid shampoos, DVDs from a bus bearing registration no: 2762 at the Raiwind Road. It was said that the bus was carrying the illegal items hidden tactfully. The bus was also carrying pilgrims from Peshawar who wanted to perform some religious duties.
