NEW DELHI: Customs Commissioner S.K. Rahman called upon importers, exporters and other traders to use the services of Customs staff who were available round-the-clock at seaports. They would be present at Gannavaram airport in the near future.
Due focus is laid on anti-smuggling activities which were likely to go up in the changed circumstances, he observed.
Addressing a seminar on ‘Opportunities for trade- Customs’ on the final day of Amaravati Trade Fair organised by the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) here as part of its Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Monday, Mr. Rahman said a revenue of Rs. 3,000 crore was targeted in purview of Customs Preventive Commissionerate based in Vijayawada for 2015-16.
The CPC was formed with effect from October 15, 2014 for the entire State of Andhra Pradesh excluding Visakhapatnam with Vijayawada as headquarters office.
It looks after imports and exports at Custom Houses at Kakinada and Krishnapatnam and Inland Container Depot at Marripalem in Guntur district along with anti-smuggling units.
Seventeen gold biscuits were seized during the year so far.
The Central government has sanctioned 332 staff for Andhra Pradesh by duly taking into account the requirement of Machilipatnam port and Gannavaram airport, Mr. Rahman added.
VCCI president V. Bhaskar Rao, vice-president V. Bala Prasad and others spoke on the occasion.
