Customs Court approves interim challan of suspects in tax evasion case

KARACHI: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has accepted interim challan against suspects, Afaq Ahmed Siddiqui, Muhammad Adnan Khan, Sami and others. The suspects were booked in a tax evasion case.

During the hearing, S Azhar Mehdi, investigation officer, appeared before the court and submitted interim challan. He informed the court that Afaq Ahmed Siddiqui, authorized representative of importer Mega Enterprises and Muhammad Adnan Khan, proprietor of Mega Enterprises, are in judicial custody. However, the third suspect, Sami, authorized representative of importer M/s Mega Enterprises is still absconder in this case.

He further informed the court that during the investigation, it was revealed that the suspects are involved in duty and taxes evasion of Rs 2.51 million.

Therefore, case was registered against the above named accused persons by Abdul Basit Musheer, Senior Preventive Officer Customs House Karachi in violation of section 32 (1) (2) 32-A 79 & 80 of customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses (14) (14A) & (43) of section 156 (i) ibid.

According to the interim challan, names of Abdul Basit Musheer, Senior Preventive Officer Custom House Karachi, Shabbir Ahmed son of Ahmed Ali and S. Azhar Mehdi, investigation officer of this case are mentioned as witness. After the hearing, the court accepted the interim challan and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit final the challan.
