Customs Intelligence unearths tax evasion by two packaging companies

KARACHI: The Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB/R&D) of Model Customs Collectorate of Appraisement (West), in its continued recovery campaign, has recovered an amount of Rs 1 million from importers for their alleged involvement in misusing of SRO1125(I)/2011 in clearance of chemical master batch namely “Peony White”.

According to details, the AIB/R&D, while scrutinising the import data of the importers M/s Irshad Saeed Packaging (Private) Limited and M/s Express Packaging (Private) Limited found that both of the importers were involved in misusing the SRO1125(I)/2011.

The AIB sources informed Customs Today that both the importers had cleared their consignments containing chemical master batch namely “Peony White vide Goods Declaration (GD) No KAPW-HC-66829 and KAPW-HC-66762 while declaring PCT Heading 3206.1900. However; the consignments should have to be cleared under PCT Heading 3206.4910.

Subsequently, the AIB authorities issued demand notices to both the importers to recover the evaded amount.

It is pertinent to mention here that the AIB authorities have recovered millions of rupees from various importers for misusing SROs 551(I)/2008; 1125(I)/2011 and SRO421and allegedly evading legitimate duty/taxes. The sources further informed this scribe that Collector-MCC Appraisement (West) Muhammad Saleem is quite satisfied with the performance of the AIB/R&D officials and has issued special directives to tighten noose around tax-evaders.
