BERLIN: Customs officials say they have found about 700 weapons and 2.2 tons of ammunition in a house in western Germany, hoarded by a man who sold arms without a valid license.
The head of the customs investigation office in Essen reported on last month’s find at an annual news conference Tuesday, news agency dpa reported. Hans-Joachim Brandl said officials needed two days to take away the rifles and pistols.
Brandl said: “We could hardly believe that someone was hoarding so many weapons in a house where he lives with his wife and son.”
Customs authorities said the 54-year-old man from the town of Schwerte, who wasn’t identified, didn’t have a valid weapons trading license and was using a friend’s. His customers included collectors and hunters.
