Customs Preventive foils attempts to smuggle betel nuts, diesel in separate raids

KARACHI: Collectorate of Custom Collectorate Preventive Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) has busted huge quantity of smuggled betel nuts worth millions of rupees.

According to the details, Collector Customs Preventive Saqif Saeed received credible information about some smuggling attempts. He immediately altered anti-smuggling squads to enhance checking. The ASO team intercepted a passengers bus and recovered 1400 kilograms of smuggled betel nuts.

The ASO team informed Customs Today that the raid was conducted at passenger bus named Al-Muqaddar Coach bearing Registration No JB-0341 at Moachko Choke Point during which one culprit has also been arrested.

The value of the recovered betel nuts is one hundred and six sacks of Betel Nuts is worth 1,120,000/- rupees and the total Value of Seizure is approximately Rs11,200,000/-. The case has been registered and further investigations are underway to nab the master mind involved in the heinous crime of smuggling, added the custom officer.

The drive against the smugglers: The drive against the smugglers is under full swing whereas the anti-smuggling squads are working round the clock to thwart the smuggling activities at any cost as due to the smuggling of different items Pakistan is facing billions of rupees loss monthly, said the Custom Officer.

In another raid, Collectorate of Customs Hyderabad team seizes 45,000 liters of Iranian origin smuggled High speed diesel (HSD) and conveyance which worth Rs12 million in the international market. The cases against the smuggling of the diesel have also been registered.
