KARACHI: Customs Preventive Additional Collector Headquarters Khalid Hussain Jamali has said the Pakistan Customs, in its ongoing anti-smuggling drive, seized a huge quantity of electronic and merchandised goods in the process of re-export on fake and forged documents.

Talking to Customs Today exclusively, the Additional Collector said that in sequence to previous seizure of smuggled goods meant for Transshipment Permit (TP), the collectorate preventive enhanced vigilance and asked the export collectorate to point out goods to be re-exported.

In this case, a clearing agent filed goods declaration for re-export at export collectorate, which was found fake and forged. Accordingly, the goods worth Rs 272.82 million involving Rs 155 million duty and taxes were seized, he added.

The goods included merchandise/ contraband goods of high slab duty such as mobile phones, perfumes, LED TVs, refrigerant gas, etc. An FIR was lodged and arrests were made in the case.

Moreover, the Customs Preventive also seized another consignment of mobile phones totaling 71400 mobile sets which were imported on vague description and under single PCT i.e “Electronic Goods and Stationery”.

The consignment was imported by M/s Zawa Impex and Co Lahore in August and no GD or TP was filed for the consignment clearance. Later, the importer filed a request for re-export of consignment stating the consignment was actually meant for Dubai, where they kept their stock and it was then imported in smaller lots.

The re-export request was rejected. However, some irrelevant persons were trying to clear the same. The FIR was lodged and one person was arrested in the case.
