AMMAN: A bid to smuggle 1,752 cartons of cigarettes was foiled in the governorate of Aqaba, the Jordan Customs Department (JCD) said Monday.
The JCD said the cartons were concealed in a container that had a bill of entry as industrial raw material. The JCD also foiled an attempt to smuggle 475 cartons of illegal firecrackers that were stashed in a container labeled glass material.
Moreover, Wadi Al Yotom Customs checkpoint staff thwarted a bid to smuggle 31 tons of coffee. Aqaba Customs Directorate seized the items and referred the cases to the Customs prosecutor general for further legal action against the accused.
