COPENHAGEN: The Danish wind turbine giant Vestas capped a solid second quarter by securing three orders from the US yesterday. Vestas notched up two orders from the global renewable energy company SunEdison, a 274 MW order in Texas and a 155 MW deal in Maine. A third deal with an unnamed client in the US involving 108 MW was also agreed.

“Our 3 MW turbine platform is proving its versatility across a variety of North American wind regimes, and we are starting to see much broader deployment across the wind belt,” said Chris Brown, the president of Vestas’s sales and service division in the US and Canada.

“This project will be its first deployment in the important Texas market, where the combination of a robust design, outstanding grid support, and a large rotor make this turbine the best choice to minimise the cost of energy throughout the life of the project. We’re very happy to add this latest agreement to our growing strategic relationship with SunEdison.”

The second financial quarter has been very successful for Vestas, which has accumulated orders totalling 2,467 MW, the best second quarter performance since 2010 when one monster order of 1,500 MW contributed to the success.
