Delay in return of deposits by BOML perturbs customs agents

KARACHI: Customs agents are facing a lot of difficulties due to delay in return of deposits by BOML Containers.

The highly-placed sources told Customs Today on Friday that customs agents have to make frequent visits for return of deposit amount after they return the containers. The amount deposited under the head of deposits is returned even after one month. The agents when ask about the deposit amount, they are asked to visit after four days or seven days.

The sources said that BOML staff deposits the amount in current account and earn interest. The sources also said that some officials demand bribe from the agents and those who pay the bribe, they are returned the amount in seven days.

The rest of agents make frequent visit for the return of deposit amount. A customs agent seeking anonymity said we returned six containers six days weeks ago but the deposited amount has not been returned despite passage of 20 days. We are visiting BOML again and again but to no avail, he added.
