ISLAMABAD: Delay in the 425MW Nandipur power project have caused a huge loss of more than Rs113 billion to the national exchequer.
This was disclosed by Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif in the National Assembly while replying to questions raised by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Shaista Pervaiz.
In a written reply, the minister said that a judicial commission, which was formed in 2011 to probe into the delay, had held the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs responsible for the delay in the completion of the project.
Khawaja Asif, quoting the commission’s report, said that the law ministry kept sitting on the file, seeking clearance for the import of machinery which was to be installed at the site. The case is now pending with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Nandipur power project was started in January 2008 at a cost of Rs23 billion. The contract was given to a Chinese firm, which was supposed to complete the work by April 2011.
