Director I&I Irfan Javed seizes smuggled goods worth Rs39m from Super Parcel Goods train

KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) team recovered huge quantity of smuggled goods which were being transported from Lahore to Karachi.

According to sources, Director I&I Irfan Javed received credible information regarding transportation of huge quantity of smuggled goods from Lahore to Karachi through Railways goods train taking the advantage of ongoing countrywide lockdown, the team of Customs Intelligence and Investigation carried out search of “Super Parcel Goods Train (406 DN)”.

As a result; 5 bogies laden with smuggled goods were identified. Thorough checking led to the recovery of 12 MT betel nuts worth Rs10 million.

Foreign origin cigarettes assorted brands, 387 cartons i.e. 193,500 packets (3.87 million cig. sticks) worth Rs29.02 million

Sources told that preliminary investigation has revealed that the goods were booked by 5 different cargo agencies from Lahore.

FIR has been lodged & further investigation is underway.
