Internal Audit DG Rubina Wasti to recover Rs 150m short revenue collections

KARACHI: The Directorate General of Internal Audit-Customs has sent audit paras of around Rs 150 million to the Customs Collectorates of Lahore, Rawalpindi, MCC-Appraisement-West and Air Freight Unit (AFU) Karachi against a revenue shortage in clearance of software downloaded from internet and CD, it is learnt.

Sources informed Customs Today that the directorate has pointed out Rs 150 million after scrutinising the PCT Heading 8523.4190, 8523.8030 and 8523.5990.

The sources also said that the short revenue detected was that of July-2014 to October-2014, adding that further scrutiny of the data was underway.

The sources added that the consignments of the software were being cleared under PCT Heading 8523.8030 having customs duty at 5 percent while the directorate during the scrutiny observed that the software consignments should have to be cleared under PCT Heading 8523.4190 having customs duty at 10 percent.

To a question, they said that the directorate was scrutinising the data of the software consignments cleared under PCT 8523.8030.

Directorate General of Internal Audit-Customs Director General Rubina Wasti said the main objective of the directorate was to help the Customs Department and its collectorates in recovering the pointed out revenue.
