“I will try my best to serve in the interest of the nation,” Dr Irshad said after his appointment, adding that his first priority is to meet the revenue target and increase the tax net. “My doors are open for everyone. We are ready to meet all the challenges,” he added.

Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Member Customs Nasir Masroor, Member Inland Revenue Rehamat Ullah Khan Wazir, Member Administration Muhammad Majid Qureshi, Member Strategic Planning and Reforms Dr Muhammad Iqbal, Member Legal, Member FATE and other Members have congratulated Dr Irshad on phone and expressed their best wishes for him.

It is worth-mentioning that pen-down strike of Inland Revenue officers has ended across the country after the appointment of Dr Irshad as FBR chairman. The employees of FBR held strike as a protest on granting an additional charge of the slot of Secretary Revenue Division to Tariq Bajwa Secretary Finance.

Dr Irshad was promoted to next grade in BS-22 in August 2016. He will continue to perform as FBR chairman/Secretary Revenue Division till his retirement in April 2017.

Dr Irshad, pursuing the Establishment Division’s Notification No. 34/02/2017-E-I dated 14.02.2017, assumed the charge of the post of FBR chairman/Secretary Revenue Division with effect from February 14.

Meanwhile, Tariq Pasha, a BS-22 officer and Secretary Economic Affairs Division (EAD), has been given additional charge of Special Assistant to Finance Minister.
