ABU DHABI: A man was caught by Dubai Customs who smuggled his own boy into the country for the purpose to make him a beggar in Dubai.

The unemployed man insisted in court that the 7-year-old boy was his son, though forensic results show he is not, reported ‘Gulf Today’.

The 38-year-old suspect was caught begging in Abu Hail last September and cops had found that he was an illegal resident and that he was earlier deported for begging.

He admitted to the crime, and claimed that he returned to the UAE in order to seek financial assistance for the boy’s treatment. The child suffers from speech and hearing impairment.

In July he had argued in court that the child was, indeed, his son and the Criminal Court had acquitted him. But prosecutors appealed the ruling.

However, the Appeals Court has upheld the acquittal.
