Dubai Customs inspectors at Dubai International Airport have foiled an attempt to smuggle four kilograms of crystal meth hidden in the luggage of an Asian traveller who wanted to sell the drug in the UAE.

Ali Al Maqhawi, director of airport operations at Dubai Customs said the inspectors succeeded in foiling the attempt thanks to their experience in people’s body language.
According to the inspectors, the traveller’s body language showed that he was extremely nervous and scared, which caused them to keep a close eye on him.
When the inspectors asked the suspect about the content of his luggage he said there were only clothes and personal items. However when the items were inspected via the airport luggage x-ray scanner, the images showed that there was a high density in the bags which required manual inspection.
During the manual inspection they found 4.1 kilograms of crystal meth in hidden pockets in the two bags.
The traveller then confessed that he wanted to smuggle the drugs in order to sell them illegally in the UAE. The smuggler, along with the drugs, were handed over to the anti-narcotics department.
Al Maqhawi praised the skilled inspectors who were specially trained in body language and familiarised about the ways of smuggling drugs.
He added that the department also uses the latest technology in passenger and luggage inspection in order to help them protect society.
