MEXICO CITY: Those focused on building a fence along the Arizona-Mexico border are being left in dust as Gov. Doug Ducey hit high notes in his official visit to Mexico this week.
The intent of Ducey’s visit is to make the border fence disappear when it comes to trade, transportation and education between.
Ducey has been made aware of these opportunities, and a purpose of the official visit is to build the relationships, open the doors, and connect Arizona business and government leaders with Mexican counterparts. More than 40 percent of Arizona’s exports go to Mexico.
The governor spent Wednesday meeting with with CEOs and executives from Mexican mining, trade, financial, agribusiness and health companies, as well as the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico City E. Anthony Wayne. He also again met with billionaire Carlos Slim.
The Slim family-hosted reception, according to sources, was more than diplomatically cordial. The Grupo Carso executives and Slim family were warm, welcoming and extended the same enthusiasm for Arizona that was extended to Slim when he spoke in Phoenix in April.
Ducey has a lot of ground to cover in the three days he’s in Mexico. A major portion comes off the trip earlier in the week to Paris promoting Arizona aerospace.
