Egypt’s non-petroleum exports down 20% to $8bn in May 2015

CAIRO: Egypt’s non-petroleum exports amounted to $8bn in May 2015, compared to $10bn in the same period last year, with a decrease of 20%, according to a report from the General Organization for Exports, Imports and Control (GOEIC).

Chemical and fertiliser industry exports decreased the most, going from $233m in May 2015, to $419m during the same period in 2014- a 44% decrease.

Other industries also faced significant drops in export rates. Leather exports decreased at a rate of 43%. The agricultural crops sector’s exports declined from $282m in May 2014 to $224m in the same period of this year.

The medical, engineering and furniture industries also suffered declines in exports.
